Book the 5 days desert trip from Marrakech and spend 5 days exploring the south of Marrakech. You will come to terms with the Erg Chebbi Sand Dunes, which is a gateway to the Great Sahara; meet people, experience the camel trekking in the desert, spend the night in the tent under the stars…etc.
Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Ouarzazate – Dades Valley
In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel or Riad and drive you to the south of Marrakech in a day full of exotic experiences. We will first drive through the High Atlas Mountains over the Pass of Tizi n’Tichka (2260m) with its Berber Villages built in adobe and stones, we will then visit the Ait Benhaddou Kasbah that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. The Ait Benhaddou Village has been used for shooting several films of Hollywood like Gladiator, Prince of Persia…etc. We will also drive the Valley of Roses and to overnight at the Dades Valley.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Erfoud – Erg Chebbi
After breakfast, we will visit the Todra Gorges (Canyons) with its high cliffs that have attracted mountain climbers from all over the world. The canyons are penetrated by the Todra river and has been an attraction to all Moroccans living in the south seeking fresh air and an escape from the heat of the desert. We will drive through the Tafilalet Oasis before arriving to the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi where you will saddle you camel up for a long journey to the camp that is located in the heart of the heart. Dinner will be served at the camp.
Day 3: Exploring the area
Early wake up in the morning to attend the panoramic view of sunrise over the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. After breakfast, you will get back by camel to the hotel that is located at the feet of the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. We will spend the day exploring the Erg Chebbi area in which Hassi Labied and Merzouga form the largest villages, we will first get an introduction to the traditional system of irrigation known as Khettaras (acqueducts). The system is still adopted and the acqueducts are still functioning that are behind the growth of the oasis we see at the feet of the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. We will then visit Khamlia Village resided by black people from sub-Saharan countries who were brought as slaves from Sudan; today the village has become popular thanks to the spiritual music performed by the locals using traditional intsruments like castanets, drums…etc. We will visit the lush Tafilalet Oasis and if it coincides with the weekly market or souk, then it’s a great opportunity to explore the traditional souks and bazaars. In the late afternoon, we will drive back to the hotel where we will overnight.
Day 4: Erg Chebbi – Nkob – Agdez – Ouarzazate
After breakfast, we will take the road through arid plateaus and volcanic mountains traversing the Nkob village with its well-preserved Kasbahs, we will also cross the Anti-Atlas Mountains over the Tizi n’Tnifift Pass with its shapes due to the different formations. In the late afternoon, we will arrive to the Hollywood Capital of Africa, Ouarzazate where we will spend the night.
Day 5: Ouarzazate – Telouet – High Atlas – Marrakech
In the morning, we will visit the Taourirt Kasbah that is located at the heart of Ouarzazate and which was built by the Glaoui family to control the caravans. We will also visit the Atlas Film Studios and drive through the Atlas Mountains to the majestic Castle of Telouet that was the main residence of the Glaoui who was appointed by the Sultan Hassan I as the Pasha of Marrakech. We will continue through the High Atlas Mountains to get back to Marrakech in the evening.
The 5 days trip to the desert from Marrakech includes the following:
- Private 4WD or MPV for 5 days including professional English speaking driver/guide and fuel.
- 3 days accommodation in comfortable and nice hotels with half board basis (dinner and breakfast are included).
- 1 night accommodation at the Berber Camp with half board.
- Camel Trekking for a nice journey.
The tour to the desert does not include the following:
